Better grounded than not (especially with smart switches), but it's not the same as with outlets where any wide range of shitty consumer electronics or small appliances might be plugged in (and potentially back-feed). Indeed, with switches, it's really not a huge thing anyways. The bare copper wire is ground, and if it's connected, your switches are "grounded" but that's completely irrelevant to installing any smart switch. The hot comes into the switch, the load goes to the light. So, again, first and foremost, if you get hurt or die - Do NOT sue me! automate_the_things may be deathly afraid of their pace maker giving out, but getting shocked damn sure isn't going to help you, and could - hypothetically - kill you. I am not an electrician, and I won't permit you to sue me. Does this mean that the box is grounded and the switches are grounded as they are connected to the box?Īlright, aside from automate_the_things paranoia about electricity.įirst, my own safety disclaimer. UPDATE: okay, I looked harder and saw that there is a copper wire attached to a screw that the back of the box (and is cut with no extra copper wire).
